President Donald Trump’s push for the US to purchase Greenland could have an estimated cost of $700 billion, according to reports.

“The United States needs Greenland for national security purposes,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social on Wednesday, warning that if the United States did not act, “Russia or China will.”

The president added that “anything less” than US control of Greenland was “unacceptable” and argued that the Arctic region, including the “Golden Dome” missile defense system under development, was vital to American defense interests.

Trump’s renewed move has increased tensions with Denmark and other NATO allies.

As previously reported by Fox News Digital, troops from several European countries deployed to Greenland on Thursday for a two-day mission aimed at strengthening the region’s defenses.

While Fox News stated that France, Germany, Sweden and Norway would participate in the exercise, the leaders said that the purpose of the mission was to demonstrate NATO’s ability to quickly deploy military assets to the North Pole.
