“We want freedom for the Iranian people,” said Sarah Shahi, one of the protesters. “We want this theocracy, which usurps people’s rights, to be eliminated at all costs. We need help when so many people have been killed.”

Protesters gathered opposite the residence of Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations and called for the overthrow of the regime in Tehran.
The ostentatious 19th-century limestone townhouse was originally purchased by the Iranian government under Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the shah of Iran who reigned from 1941 to 1979. It has since become the official home of the country’s representative to the UN. There have been occasional protests in the area, but at one point, overnight, someone spray-painted the words “terrorists” and “murderers” on the front line.

One protester’s sign featured a photo of Iran’s current UN Ambassador, Amir Saeid Iravani, with the words “A terrorist lives here.”
“It is a great injustice for the people of the Islamic Republic to reside here,” Shahi said. “But this is the closest place to the embassy” as a protest location.

President Trump has ordered U.S. warships to move within striking distance of Iran as he evaluates possible attacks on the regime’s nuclear program, oil and military targets. The estimates were made in response to Iran’s ongoing support of terrorism and brutal mass killings of protesters, which says up to 30,000 people have been killed for participating in anti-regime street demonstrations.
The protesters in Manhattan are supporters of the late Shah’s son, Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, who has been speaking out against the regime for weeks as the barbaric crackdown continues. Pahlavi has been in exile for 47 years since his father fled and the Iranian revolution ushered in a strictly religious anti-American mullah regime.

The protesters’ chants were no less fervent than those of their brothers and sisters who filled the streets of Iranian cities. Banners reading “End of the regime in Iran” read, “Brave Iranians are fighting on the field. The USA and Israel must now take action against a common enemy.” Other banners read “No to the Islamic Republic regime” and “Make Iran great again.”
Protesters say they expect President Trump to take military action against the regime so the nation can finally taste freedom.
