West Bengal Police bust ₹317-crore cyber fraud racket, conduct raids at businessman Pawan Ruia’s premises

West Bengal Police Cyber ​​Crime Wing busted an online scam worth Rs 317 crore involving 148 shell companies and raided the house and offices of businessman Pawan Ruia for his alleged links to the crime, an officer said on Tuesday (November 11, 2025).

The officer said police teams searched the homes and offices of Ruia and several of his colleagues last Thursday (November 6, 2025) after their names were featured in an FIR registered in connection with a nationwide cyber fraud case.

“A meticulous investigation has revealed direct involvement in a cyber scam. More than 1,379 complainants in West Bengal and other parts of India were defrauded of approximately ₹ 317 crore,” police said in a statement on Monday, November 10, 2025. he said.

“These funds were diverted to multiple bank accounts of 148 shell companies, many of which shared the same registered address, and were subsequently transferred to various mule accounts,” he added.

Speaking further about their investigation, the officer said, “Initial findings indicate that around ₹170 crore of funds diverted to prevent law enforcement from tracking or freezing assets were converted into cryptocurrency.” he said.

The officer added that a suo motu FIR was registered at Barrackpore Cyber ​​Crime Police Station on November 5. “The FIR named Ruia, his family members and close associates, stating that 11 directors associated with Ruia-controlled entities also served on the boards of 186 other companies across India,” the official said.

Following the complaint, police teams rushed to the ‘Ruia Centre’ at 46 Syed Amir Ali Avenue in Park Circus, Dunlop Industrial Products Pvt. Ltd. at 129 Park Street, Berger House under Park Street police station and Ruia’s residence in Ballygunge, he added.
