Trump issues cryptic 6-word remark on Ukraine peace deal | World | News

Donald Trump expressed hope that a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine could be imminent, just a day after criticizing “ungrateful” Ukrainian leaders. “Something good may be happening,” the US President said in a post on Truth Social on Monday.
Mr. Trump’s full social media post, published on the morning of November 24, read: “Is it really possible to make major progress in Peace Talks between Russia and Ukraine? Don’t believe it until you see it, but something good might be happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
This comes as international leaders are meeting in Geneva to broker a peace deal on terms acceptable to both Russia and Kiev, which unlawfully attacked Ukraine in February 2022.
As news emerged on Saturday of a 28-point peace deal brokered by the US, Sir Keir Starmer and European leaders suggested more work was needed to bring peace to Ukraine.
In the joint statement published by the Council of Europe, the following statements were made: “We welcome the efforts of the United States to bring peace to Ukraine. The first draft of the 28-point plan contains important elements that will be necessary for a just and lasting peace. Therefore, we believe that the draft provides a basis that will require additional work.”
The next day, Mr. Trump launched a scathing attack on Ukraine’s leadership, claiming they had “shown no gratitude” for U.S. peace efforts while also criticizing the Europeans for their use of Russian oil and gas.
The first peace plan called for Ukraine to give up territory not occupied by Russia, as well as a significant amount of territory that Russian troops had illegally seized in recent years, and abandon its dream of joining NATO.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said over the weekend that Ukraine faces a difficult choice between losing its honor or losing an important ally, the United States.
He said on Monday it was vital that European allies support Ukraine’s “borders cannot be changed by force, war criminals must not escape justice and the aggressor must pay the full price for the war he started.”
