Man allegedly crashes mum’s car into bridge while triple alcohol limit in Pakenham

A man who allegedly crashed his mother’s white Toyota into a bridge while drinking three times the legal alcohol limit in Melbourne’s south-east has been left without a car and a licence.

Witnesses called police at around 10am on Saturday after a 22-year-old Pakenham man was allegedly seen speeding along Irving Road near Falling Water Drive in Pakenham.

Allegedly, the driver lost control of his vehicle and went onto the nature strip.

The car allegedly flew into the air, then dismantled several metal poles and eventually crashed into a bridge pillar.

While the driver allegedly fled the scene on foot, the police started a search in the area.

Police said they found the man hiding at a nearby relative’s home and took him into custody.

A breath test was performed and allegedly gave a reading of 0.15.

“In addition, it was determined that his driver’s license was suspended and a small amount of cocaine was (allegedly) found when the vehicle was searched,” the police statement said.

The Pakenham man has been released and is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving and other traffic-related offences.

“Perhaps the worst punishment would be to explain to his mother that he no longer has a car,” the police said.
