President Donald Trump said he could send Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine if Russian President Vladimir Putin fails to resolve the war, calling the weapon “incredible” and “very offensive.”
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday night, Trump was asked about his recent talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and military aid.
Trump said he spoke with Zelenskyy on Sunday morning, and Zelenskyy asked whether Ukraine needed additional weapons in its fight against Russia.
Trump said that the US sold and sent weapons to NATO, unlike the Biden administration, which he said gave $350 billion to Ukraine.

“We didn’t give him anything, but we respected them and did other things,” Trump said.
He added that he hoped the United States could provide more weapons, but that the country must have enough weapons to defend itself.
“They need patriots so bad. They want to have Tomahawks. This is one step,” Trump said. “We talked about this, we’ll see.”

Before agreeing to send Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, Trump said he might first talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin to see if Moscow wants the missiles aimed at him.
“I don’t think so,” Trump said. “To be fair, I can talk to Russia about this. I told President Zelenskyy this because Tomahawks are a new step of aggression.”
As for a possible meeting with Putin, Trump said he might have to tell him, “If this war isn’t resolved, I’m going to send them Tomahawks.”

“The Tomahawk is an incredible weapon, a very offensive weapon, and frankly Russia doesn’t need it,” Trump said. “I could tell him that if the war remains unresolved, we may very well do it. We may not be able to do it, but we can. I think it’s appropriate to bring this up.”
“I want to see the war concluded,” Trump added.

Zelenskyy added that they also discussed “many details” about the energy sector, but did not provide details.
“President Trump is well informed about everything that is going on,” Zelenskyy wrote. “We agreed to continue our dialogue and our teams are making preparations.”
Trump’s meeting with Zelenskyy comes as Moscow continues to strike Ukraine with drones and missiles, injuring at least 20 people in Kiev and causing widespread power outages on Friday. A child was also killed in a separate Russian attack in the southeast.
Late Saturday and early Sunday, Russia attacked Ukraine’s power grid in an attempt to deteriorate the country’s energy infrastructure ahead of winter.
