Trump open to Nvidia selling downgraded Blackwell AI chip to China

US President Donald Trump pointed out that it will be open to allow Nvidia To sell a reduced version of the most advanced artificial intelligence chip to China.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Trump said he could make an agreement with Nvidia if he could reduce the performance of the Blackwell system.

Trump said he would meet with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Blackwell.

Last month, Huang said that he hoped to sell more advanced chips to China, which lobby for access to the Chinese market after it was effectively closed.

Chinese companies have stock these chips and use them to create AI models. According to Triolo, these chips have been legally acquired and are still used to train models.
It is not yet clear what kind of a reduced Blackwell system will have for China and whether it is suitable for more advanced models training. Meanwhile, Huawei continues to develop the Ascend series processor series, which he tries to position as an Nvidia alternative.
“We hope we hope that the previously acquired NVIDIA GPUs can change them and Huawei’s new ASCEND series processors can change them, but we hope that they will not do it yet.” He said.
