Australian police reveal previously unseen photos 25 years after Falconio murder

Australian police have released never-before-seen photos of their investigation into the murder of British backpacker Peter Falconio 25 years ago.

Falconio, from Huddersfield, was shot on a remote highway near the Northern Territory town of Barrow Creek, about 300km north of Alice Springs, on July 14, 2001.

His body has never been found and police hope the footage will spark memories that could lead to a report. His killer, Bradley Murdoch, died of throat cancer in prison last year at the age of 67, but the whereabouts of Falconio’s remains were not disclosed.

The footage includes a full-length photo of Murdoch looking directly at the camera during the police investigation.

Falconio’s girlfriend, Joanne Lees, ran away from Murdoch and hid in bushland for several hours until she waved down two men driving a truck.

One of the photos taken by police shows Lees traumatized in the hours after the attack. Others show the injuries he suffered, including after his wrists were bound with cable ties.
