Trump Praises India, PM Modi In Front Of Shehbaz Sharif; Pakistan PM Stunned | WATCH | India News
Speaking in Egypt on Monday after signing the peace agreement ending the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, US President Donald Trump called India a “great country” and called Prime Minister Narendra Modi his “very good friend”. This happened while Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was standing behind. This became more than just a viral moment, as the Pakistani leader probably did not expect PM Modi to be praised, especially when the Indian Prime Minister was not there.
Trump’s statement came just days after Prime Minister Modi had a phone conversation with US President Trump and congratulated him on the “success of the historic Gaza peace plan”.
“India is a great country, I have a great friend at the top and he did a great job,” Trump said.

The US President said, “I think India and Pakistan will live very well together,” and turned to the Pakistani Prime Minister, to which Sharif nodded and said, “Is that so?” he asked.

Relations between India and Pakistan have been tense since the Pahalgam attack on April 22, when terrorists killed 26 people. Following the attack, the Indian Armed Forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ in the early hours of May 7, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). Following this, Pakistani forces launched a series of drone and missile attacks on Indian territory, prompting retaliation from Indian forces. However, on 10 May, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) contacted his Indian counterpart to negotiate a cessation of hostilities, leading to the declaration of a ceasefire.

New US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor completed his four-day visit to India.
Gor met Prime Minister Modi on Saturday and gifted him a framed photo of the White House meeting in February this year. In the photo signed by Trump, “Dear Prime Minister, you are great!” it said.
According to IANS, the official statement made by Sergio Gor said: “Good evening, it is an honor and a privilege to be here today. I arrived in New Delhi from Washington early this morning and we hit the ground running. We had a number of great meetings, including with External Affairs Minister Misri, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Doval. We also just finished an incredible meeting with Prime Minister Modi where we discussed bilateral issues: defence, trade and technology. Also We also discussed the importance of critical minerals for both countries.
“The United States values its relationship with India, and under the strong leadership of President Donald J. Trump and Prime Minister Modi, I am optimistic about the days ahead for both of our nations. President Trump considers Prime Minister Modi a wonderful and personal friend. In fact, they had an incredible phone call right before he left for New Delhi, and this is something that will continue for weeks and months to come.”
