Trump programs news like TV producer, creates constant daily headlines

The thing to understand about Donald Trump is that he thinks like a programmer.
This is no surprise given his “Apprentice” history. But it also means that sometimes he’ll step into his own story.

If it’s Friday and he hasn’t made any major news in a few days, I know he’ll give the press something to provide fodder for their weekend schedules. He knows how to fill that void, especially with Democrats who are essentially leaderless.
While the president was basking in worldwide acclaim for brokering a seemingly impossible ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, he posted something crazy on Truth Social that would herald another mini news cycle.
Believe me, having interviewed him many times, he knows all about lighting and camera angles and has definite preferences, such as using an overhead mic instead of the standard lapel mic. He once complained to the crew that his skin looked too orange.

He continues to make the unproven claim that the 2020 election was stolen, which is denied by his own Department of Justice. He won the 2024 election fairly handily, and what followed was his revenge campaign, which brought charges against James Comey and Letitia James, enlisting an inexperienced loyalist to do something no one else would do. And in almost every speech he attacks Joe Biden, who is battling cancer.
And he does it in the open. Here is a typical post:
“Documents conclusively show that Christopher Wray, Deranged Jack Smith, Merrick Garland, Lisa Monaco, and other crooked goons from the failed Biden Administration signed on to Operation Arctic Frost. They spied on Senators and Congressmen/women and even recorded their calls. They rigged and rigged the 2020 Presidential Election. These Radical Left Crazies should be prosecuted for their illegal and highly unethical behavior!”

By the way, I do not believe that Trump, who will be 86 years old at the end of one term, will run for a third term. It is also expressly prohibited in the Constitution.
By refusing to ignore this, he is basically trolling people. What if he uses this or that maneuver that Steve Bannon supports? Besides, no president wants to be seen as a lame duck prematurely.
Trump tells you exactly what he will do. He said he would cut programs favored by Democrats during the government shutdown, and he’s doing just that. This is either transparency (according to his supporters) or authoritarianism (according to his critics).
It is no coincidence that the administration announced that the SNAP program, which reaches 42 million Americans with benefits called food stamps, will no longer be funded as of this Saturday.

Trump can also be easily triggered. He cut off trade talks with Canada over an Ontario ad in which he called fake artificial intelligence, an odd stance for a man who fancies himself a fighter pilot who poops on protesters. Additionally, the ad accurately, though inaccurately, conveyed Ronald Reagan’s anti-tariff comments in a radio address.
I’m sure when things calm down Trump will fix it with what he still wants to make the 51st state.

Last week, Trump did two things that sparked opposition from some of his traditional allies.
He sought $630 million from his compliant Justice Department for his pain in all the past investigations that led to four indictments against him. Conservative author and podcaster Ben Shapiro said this is a terrible conflict of interest and Trump should drop the idea. If you’ve lost Daily Wire founder Ben Shapiro, this is a precursor.

The second was the destruction of the East Wing. Images of that historical wreckage are constantly replayed on television.
Trump was lying when he said current plans for a $350 million ballroom would leave the East Wing, which dates back to 1902, untouched because of cost overruns. He then moved quickly and secretly, demolishing the entire building. The wreck is the story. You don’t need a panel of lawyers to explain this. Trump did the exact opposite of his promise. It’s still hard to look at.

The president’s trip to Asia could spark new headlines due to his meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Otherwise, he will find other ways to make news.
That’s the thing about Trump. He makes good use of the giant megaphone provided by the White House. He shows every day, filling the area with so many stories that it’s hard to keep up even for the journalists and politicians who follow him for a living.
