President Donald Trump on Monday questioned whether California Gov. Gavin Newsom is fit for higher office, citing his learning disability.

While speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump cited the ID requirement to vote in the election and the resistance from Newsom and other Democratic elected officials.

“This is how crazy things got with a person with a low IQ, you know, because Gavin Newsom admitted he has a learning disability,” Trump said. “Honestly, I’m all for people with learning disabilities. But not for my president… I don’t think a president should have a learning disability.”

“I know it is extremely controversial to say such a terrible thing,” he added. “Gavin Newsom has admitted to having a learning disability and dyslexia. Everything about him is stupid.”

Newsom, who is widely believed to have ambitions in the White House, talked about his dyslexia, a neurologically based learning disability that makes reading difficult, according to the International Dyslexia Association.

“You’ve never seen me read a speech, because I can’t read a speech,” Newsom said last month in Atlanta while promoting his memoir, “Young Man in a Hurry.” “I couldn’t overcome dyslexia. I live with it.”

Trump also criticized Newsom for his remarks at the same Atlanta event.

“I’m, you know, I’m not trying to impress you, I’m just trying to impress you, I’m like you. I’m not better than you,” Newsom told Mayor Andre Dickens at a book tour event.

“You know, I’m a guy with a 960 SAT score. And, you know, I’m not trying to offend anyone, ‘I’m trying to act there if you get a 940,'” he continued. “A guy with a real 960 SAT score, you’ve never seen me read a speech. Because I can’t read a speech. Maybe it’s the wrong business to be in.”

Republicans criticized the governor for allegedly appealing to a mostly black audience.

“Now, above all else, I call him a racist because the audience was made up of black people,” Trump said Monday. he said. “Let me tell you, I think it was the worst interview I’ve ever seen with any human being in my life.”

At the time, Newsom’s office defended his comments in a previous statement to Fox News Digital.

“At first MAGA made fun of his dyslexia, and now they’re calling him a racist for talking about his low SAT scores. This is a MAGA-manufactured insult,” Newsom spokeswoman Izzy Gardon said.

“The governor has been saying this openly for years, including to Charlie Kirk and dozens of other viewers. The same people who excused or ignored Trump’s racist monkey video could be destroying themselves.”
