Trump ramps up Greenland threats and says US will intervene ‘whether they like it or not’ | Donald Trump

Donald Trump doubles down on threats to buy Greenland, saying US will “do something” [there] “whether they like it or not.”
Speaking at a meeting with oil and natural gas executives at the White House, the US president justified his words with the following words: “If we do not do this, Russia or China will take over Greenland. And we will not have neighbors with Russia or China.”
He added: “So we’re going to do something with Greenland either the good way or the harder way.”
Trump’s latest comments come amid rising tensions between the United States and its NATO allies, including Denmark, over his administration’s repeated attempts to seize control of the largely autonomous Arctic region. Trump’s stance was flatly rejected by Denmark and Greenland.
Despite the warnings of Danish prime minister Mette Frederiksen, who recently said that a US attack on Greenland would mean the end of “NATO and therefore post-World War II security”, Trump continued to insist that he supported the alliance.
“If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t have a NATO right now,” Trump said Friday. “But we’re not going to let Russia or China invade Greenland, and that’s what’s going to happen if we don’t.”
Trump has long expressed his interest in Greenland and first publicly announced the idea of purchasing the region during his first presidency in 2019. The proposal met with swift opposition from Danish and Greenlandic leaders.
Trump has revived the issue in recent weeks, especially after the US attack on Venezuela and the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife; this reflected the White House’s increasingly bold stance. Trump said he needed Greenland “badly” for national security.
Meanwhile, Greenlanders have repeatedly stated their refusal to become part of the United States; According to a survey conducted in 2025, 85% of the population rejects the idea. Poll shows only 7% of Americans We support the idea of a US military occupation of the region.
Greenland wasn’t the only issue on Trump’s radar Friday. He warned that the United States would take action against the Iranian regime if it tried to violently suppress protesters as demonstrations continued to grow across the country.
Stating that Iran was in “big trouble”, Trump said, “If they start killing people like in the past, we will get involved. We will hit them hard where it hurts.”
He added: “And again I say to Iranian leaders: ‘You better not start shooting, because we’re going to start shooting too.’”
