Trump Receives Nobel Peace Prize Nomination From Maria Machado: Is Award Transferable? | World News

The Nobel Peace Center made clear on Friday that after the Nobel Prize was announced it ‘cannot be withdrawn, shared or transferred to others’.

The Nobel Peace organization also announced that it could change the owner of the medal, but not the title of the Nobel Peace Prize winner.

The Nobel Peace Center said: “The medal on display at the Nobel Peace Center was actually loaned and originally belonged to Norway’s first Peace Prize winner, Christian Lous Lange. But there is one fact. As the Norwegian Nobel Committee puts it: “Once the Nobel Prize is declared, it cannot be cancelled, shared or transferred to others. The decision is final and always valid.”

This announcement by the Nobel Peace Center came just hours after Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado presented her Nobel Peace Prize medal.

During a brief media interaction on Thursday, January 15, Machado said he presented his Nobel Peace Prize medal to US President Donald Trump during a meeting at the White House in a power play to gain control of Venezuela.

Meanwhile, Trump thanked Machado for presenting him with the Nobel Peace Prize. According to Reuters, a White House official confirmed that Trump intends to keep the medal.

In a social media post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “María presented me with the Nobel Peace Prize for my work. What a wonderful gesture of mutual respect. Thank you, María!”

Machado described the meeting with Donald Trump as “excellent” and said that the medal he presented to the US President was a demonstration of Trump’s commitment to the freedom of the Venezuelan people.

The White House later shared a photo of Trump and Machado, with the president holding a large, gold-framed medal.

The accompanying text read, “To President Donald J. Trump, Our Gratitude for Your Exceptional Leadership in Promoting Peace Through Force,” labeling the gesture as a “Personal Symbol of Gratitude on behalf of the Venezuelan People.”

Machado’s effort to impress Trump comes after he rejected the idea that he should be appointed as Venezuela’s leader to replace the ousted Nicolás Maduro.

Trump had publicly lobbied for the award before Machado received it last month and reacted angrily when he was snubbed.

Although Machado presented Trump with the gold medal given to honorees, the honor belongs to him alone.
