Horror as ‘3 prison guards stabbed by inmate’ in UK jail attack | UK | News

Three guards have reportedly been injured after being stabbed by a knife-armed prisoner in a shocking prison attack. The alleged incident took place at HMP Isle of Wight on Thursday, November 20, with police launching an investigation.

Accordingly Island EchoThe two guards were taken to nearby St Mary’s Hospital after being attacked in prison by an inmate in the Inpatient Unit in the prison’s Albany area. It was reported that a 32-year-old man was injured in his face, while a 28-year-old man was injured in his right arm. A third member of staff is understood to have suffered minor injuries during the alleged attack at the facility in Parkhurst Road, Newport.

According to the information obtained, the prisoner used a makeshift weapon. They have now been moved to a Segregation unit.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police have not made any arrests at this time but investigations are ongoing. It was learned that two officers were discharged from the hospital.

A Ministry of Justice spokesman said: “Attacks on our staff are cowardly and unacceptable, which is why we are pressing for the harshest possible sentences.”
