Trump reveals future of Venezuela after issuing chilling ‘second wave’ warning | World | News

Donald Trump said on Saturday that the United States would “manage” Venezuela for now “until we have a safe, appropriate and reasonable transition.” The US President said at a press conference at his home in Florida on January 3: “We will govern the country until we can make a safe, appropriate and reasonable transition.

“So we don’t want to get involved with anyone else stepping in. And we have the same situation as the last many years. So we’re going to run the country until we can have a safe, appropriate and reasonable transition.” Mr. Trump did not offer a timeline for when the transition might end.

The US President added that Venezuela will be “rich, independent and secure” thanks to this “partnership” with the US.

At the press conference attended by US Secretary of War Peter Hegseth, Trump warned allies of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro that the US military was ready to carry out a “much larger” second wave of attacks on the Latin American country if deemed necessary.

He claimed that the US Armed Forces initially assumed that a second strike would be necessary, but that the first strike “was so successful that we probably did not need to conduct a second strike.” However, he warned: “But we are actually ready to make a second wave, a much bigger wave.”

Celebrating the capture of Venezuelan socialist leader Maduro and his wife, Mr Trump also said: “The dictator and terrorist Maduro is finally gone and the Venezuelan people are free.

“They’re free again. It’s been a long time for them, but they’re free. America is a safer country this morning… and the Western Hemisphere is a much safer place right now.”
