BJP Slams ‘Midnight Arrest’ of Party’s Social Media Convenor and Activists

Hyderabad: Union minister G. Kishan Reddy on Tuesday slammed the Congress government for “blatant suppression and suppression” of opposition voices following the midnight arrest of the party’s social media convener Sumiran Komaraju.
In a tweet, Reddy equated the Congress regime with the previous BRS government for suppressing dissent. He said the arrest took place during Hyderabad’s global investment summit touting the “fair rule of law”. He said the government made “arbitrary arrests” over posters exposing the government’s failures.
“Will investors hesitate when they see a vigilante and intolerant dictator at the helm?” Reddy asked. he asked, warning that this “emergency mentality” was damaging the state’s image. Reddy demanded Komaraju’s immediate release and said the public “will not forget or forgive” this attack on freedom of expression.
BJP chief spokesperson NV Subhash called the arrest a “direct attack on democracy”. He announced that state core committee members Ajay and Tatipamula Sai Kiran Goud were also detained.
The authorities allegedly invoked serious BNS sections against Komaraju and Ajay for the posters outside Gandhi Bhavan.
Describing the abuse of the police mechanism for political interests as a gross abuse, Subash said, “Filing cases against those who tell the truth and targeting those who remind the government of its promises are completely against democratic values.” He confirmed the party’s determination to boldly confront this “authoritarian attitude” and warned that the struggle to preserve democracy would intensify.
