Jewish Michigan Democrats admit they will vote Republican if Abdul El-Sayed becomes nominee

JTA reported that many prominent Jewish fundraisers had begun to view Rogers as a “protection” and were planning to raise money for him against El-Sayed.

“There are leaders in our Jewish community who have long been Democrats and fundraisers for Democrats and are very interested in where their party is going,” said Dennis Bernard, national director of government relations for the Jewish Federations of North America.
“And if that is the case, they have made it clear, both financially and with their votes, that they will support Mike Rogers if El-Sayed wins the primary.”
Some Jewish Democrats have indicated they plan to support GOP Senate candidate Mike Rogers of Michigan if Abdul El-Sayed becomes the Democratic nominee.
Retired commercial mortgage banker Neil Gorosh stated that he felt “rudderless” as a Democrat and announced that he would not raise funds for Rogers but would vote for a Republican over El-Sayed.
“If it comes down to Mike Rogers and El-Sayed, I’ll vote for Mike Rogers,” Gorosh said. “I wouldn’t write a check, but I would vote for him and tell my like-minded friends to do the same and why.”
Other Jewish Democrats told JTA they are focused on electing El-Sayed’s primary opponent, Rep. Haley Stevens, because of her past support for Israel’s right to exist as a nation.
“Anyone who cares about the future of US-Israel relations, Democrat or Republican, should vote for Haley Stevens in the Democratic primary,” said an unnamed Jewish leader.
Democratic Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed has previously suggested that Israel is as “bad” as Hamas.
Shimon Levy, an Israeli American entrepreneur from Detroit, made his distrust of El-Sayed more clear, expressing his concerns about Republicans retaining control of the Senate as “f— this.”
“El-Sayed has done nothing but put Jews at risk and danger, and has been very toxic with his words and has single-handedly ostracized and degraded the Jews of Southeast Michigan,” Levy said.
“If today, as a Jew, you still say, ‘Democrat all the way, Democrat all the way,’ you need to rethink your survival instinct.”

Abdul El-Sayed’s Senate campaign has been plagued by accusations of antisemitism based on El-Sayed’s past comments.
Jewish voters voice their concerns El-Sayed has been pushing antisemitism throughout his campaign, relying on his controversial statements and allies. He has previously defended campaigning with far-left Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, who once claimed the terrorist organization Hamas was “a thousand times better” than Israel.
El-Sayed also declined to answer whether he believed Israel had the necessary information. right to exist and argued that Israel was as “bad” as Hamas.

“Yes, killing tens of thousands of people makes you a pretty bad person,” El-Sayed told CNN in April.
“This is not as bad as this – Hamas: Bad, Israeli government: Bad. “We can say both.”
