Step by Step, We are Getting Back: IndiGo CEO Tells Staff

New Delhi: IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers said on Sunday that the airline will operate around 1,650 flights on Sunday and “we are getting back step by step.” Hundreds of flights have been canceled and delayed in the last few days, causing inconvenience to thousands of passengers. The country’s largest airline, which usually operates about 2,300 flights a day, operated just over 700 flights on Friday and nearly 1,500 on Saturday.

The airline’s On-Time Performance (OTP) is expected to be 75 percent on Sunday, Elbers said in an internal video message to staff.

“We have made improvements in the system to reach approximately 1,650 flights today,” he said.

The video message came from the airline’s operational control centre.

“We were able to accommodate cancellations at an earlier stage so that customers would not arrive at the airport if their flights were cancelled,” the CEO said.

According to IndiGo, 137 out of 138 destinations were operational on December 7.
