Pauline Hanson National Press Club banner stunt referred to AFP; Vodafone outage reported; US-Iran peace deal details revealed
Opposition Leader Angus Taylor said Pauline Hanson’s speech to the National Press Club yesterday was “not a credible plan” and criticized the One Nation leader for judging people “by the color of their skin”.
Taylor told a press conference in Sydney: “There are a lot of questions for One Nation to answer. I judge people by their character and their behaviour. That’s how the Liberal and National parties approach things. If they want to judge people by the color of their skin or their race, One Nation needs to explain that.”
“Immigration is now too high in this country, standards are too low, and that has to change, but what we prefer is a values-based immigration policy, where people who come to this country embrace our core values, regardless of race, religion or where they come from. We expect them to embrace those core values, that’s our position, that’s very clear,” he said.
Taylor said all immigrants to Australia should learn to speak English and welfare programs should be limited to Australian citizens only.
“The problem with what we heard yesterday is that it’s not a credible plan. I mean, we’re hearing so much, but where’s the credible plan? I understand that people are angry. I really understand that… They’re angry at what’s happening to this country, but what we need in response to this is a credible plan, and we didn’t get that yesterday.”
