Iran has made a ‘direct’ threat to US President Donald Trump by publishing a provocative photo of the President attempting to assassinate him at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania in 2024. This comes after the US warned Iran to stop “killing protesters”.
Iranian state television broadcast footage of the assassination attempt, in which the bullet escaped right next to President Trump’s ear. In the photo, Trump had blood near his ear and security agents surrounded him. The photo bore a chilling warning written in Persian: “Won’t miss the target this time.”
The footage referenced the attempted assassination of Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July 2024; Meanwhile, a gunman identified as Thomas Crooks fired on the stage, grazing Trump’s ear. The images used by Iran to send a threatening message to Trump are now widely spread on social media.
US reiterates warnings to Iran amid unrest
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly warned Iran that the US could take military action against Tehran if it continues its “violent crackdown” on protesters, saying “Help is on the way” and “seize the institutions”, referring to US intervention in the protests.
In an environment where inflation and the free fall of the Iranian currency have led to economic instability, large numbers of Iranians have taken to the streets to demonstrate against the Ayatollah’s regime. The demonstrations turned violent and more than 2,000 people lost their lives.
Donald Trump has routinely accused Iran of killing peaceful demonstrators. “If Iran kills peaceful protesters, which is their tradition, the United States will come to their rescue. We are locked, loaded, and ready to go,” he wrote.
However, Iranian officials accused US President Donald Trump of using the internal unrest in the country as a justification for a possible intervention.
