Trump sends message to MAGA faithful day after socialist Zohran Mamdani’s shock victory in NYC election

Donald Trump has defiantly told MAGA loyalists that their movement is ‘far from over’, just a day after political rival Zohran Mamdani’s shock victory in his hometown of New York City.
The President marked the first anniversary of the 2024 election by paying tribute to his voters; socialist Mamdani won the mayoral race in off-year elections in which left-wing Democrats won key contests in many states.
“My fellow Americans, our movement is not over yet, in fact our struggle has only just begun,” Trump said in the video published on Truth Social.
‘We are one movement, one people, one family and one glorious nation under God.’
While he was speaking, a remix of Norman Greenbaum’s song ‘Spirit in the Sky’ was played in the background.
To counter his Democratic rivals’ wins, Trump released clips highlighting historic first-term accomplishments, such as renaming the Gulf of Mexico and posting boring memes mocking Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer.
This ended with a photo of Trump applauding fans at a rally.
Trump released a slightly drier, more collected video of his speech to praise all of his second-term accomplishments.
‘It’s really hard to believe, but think about it; ‘A year ago we were still in the middle of a presidential campaign, can you believe it?’

The message comes after Zohran Mamdani (pictured left) was elected mayor of New York in a political earthquake that will put a 34-year-old democratic socialist in charge of America’s largest city
He added that it was “frankly a very different world” than the one he returned to the White House with.
‘It seems like ten years have passed since then since we’ve done so much, we’ve really done so much.’
The president clearly wanted to remind his followers of all his accomplishments in 2025.
‘America is back, America is respected perhaps more than ever before. “Our economy is growing, our border is secure and our country is poised for greatness,” he said.
‘We’re doing better than anyone thought possible, and no president has ever come close to what we’ve done in nine months. Thank you very much,” Trump concluded.
The president stormed to the White House by winning all seven key swing states and taking the popular vote from Kamala Harris and the Democrats.
But a year later, the Democrats appear to have finally regained momentum under the leadership of socialist Mamdani.
Trump publicly condemned Republicans for not pushing his agenda enough to win more elections during the 2025 campaign season Tuesday night.

And he warned that if more progressives are elected to office, the results could lead to a slippery slope that could lead the United States into communist rule.
The president addressed Republicans’ stunning election losses and offered advice on how they could win more elections — and Trump, who has largely avoided naming winners and losers, finally mentioned Mamdani by name just once when talking about how Republicans were keeping men away from women’s sports.
“These people are crazy,” Trump said at a business forum in Florida on Wednesday. ‘And Mamdani – whatever her name is in New York – thinks it’s great to have men playing in women’s sports.’
‘Now let’s see what a communist is like in New York; We’ll see how this plays out. And we will help them… We want New York to succeed. “We’ll help them out a little bit, maybe,” he added.
Trump also claimed Republicans “could do a little better in terms of candidates” running for mayor, governor and other local positions in Tuesday’s elections.
The president told Republicans that to win, they should brag about how much they’ve done for Americans rather than Democrats.
And the Democratic socialist warned that Mamdani would drag the United States into a communist state.
But in a speech at the American Business Forum in Miami, Florida, on Wednesday, he assured that ‘as long as I am in the White House, the United States will not be communist in any way.’
‘We will stop this, we will stop this nonsense,’ he insisted.
In his own speech, Mamdani gave the following message to Trump: ‘Well, Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: Turn up the volume.’
In that speech, Mamdani outlined initial promises he plans to implement, including universal child care, express and free buses, and a freeze on rent increases for tenants in rent-stabilized units.
His broader platform emphasized affordability measures like a $30 minimum wage, additional affordable housing and higher taxes on the city’s wealthiest residents.
Mamdani’s campaign has received national progressive support throughout the year, including endorsements from Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Trump weighed in on the race before the polls closed, branding Mamdani a ‘communist’ and threatening to restrict federal funding if he won, and backed Cuomo on the eve of the vote.
Mamdani’s team and supporters framed the final result as a mandate for affordability measures and a rejection of attacks marring the contest.
His critics wondered whether he would be elected in other parts of the country.

Observers also questioned whether he would have enough time to implement his ambitious policies, following the mixed record of his predecessors.
A recent Daily Mail poll predicted that 25 percent of New York City residents would ‘consider’ moving if he won the election. His proposed policies have frightened some locals and analysts.
On the eve of the elections, Trump hinted that he would cut funding to New York if Mamdani won the elections.
He wrote on Truth Social: ‘If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the New York City Mayoral Election, I am unlikely to contribute Federal Funds beyond the required minimum towards my beloved first home.’
He added: ‘As president, I don’t want to send good money after bad money.’ This was a reflection of his earlier sentiments in which he had labeled Mamdani a communist.
