President Donald Trump speaks Wednesday US-Saudi Investment Forum in Washington, DC

Trump’s arrival at the Kennedy Center comes a day after he hosted Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the White House.

Saudi Arabia has committed to investing $1 trillion in the United States, bin Salman told reporters on Tuesday, an amount much higher than the $600 billion previously pledged.

Bin Salman’s visit to the United States was his first since 2018, when a Saudi hit squad killed journalist Jamal Khashoggi at his country’s consulate in Istanbul. US intelligence later concluded that Bin Salman approved the operation to capture or kill Khashoggi.

On Tuesday, Trump claimed Bin Salman “doesn’t know anything about this and we can leave it at that.”

Regarding the murder of Khashoggi, who resides in the United States, Trump said, “These things happen.”

“You’re talking about someone who is extremely controversial,” Trump told a reporter who asked about Khashoggi’s killing.
