Ian Huntley: Double child murderer whose head ‘split in two’ in brutal jail bashing predicted attack

WARNING: Graphic details

The double child killer, whose head was “split in half” during a frenzied attack in prison, anticipated the attack by eerily telling relatives and friends it was “only a matter of time”.

Ian Huntley, 52, is fighting for his life after being hit in the head at least six times with a pole fitted with an improvised nail and falling unconscious into a pool of blood.

Chilling comments Huntley made to his family and prison bosses in which he expressed fears for his safety have now been revealed.

While prison bosses told him he had received numerous threats from other inmates, Huntley reportedly said: “I may not survive the next attack and maybe it would be better if I wasn’t here.”

Huntley was attacked multiple times in prison, including having his throat slit in 2010. Before the final attack, he was reportedly worried about being poisoned by his fellow inmates.

Triple killer Anthony Russell, 43, is suspected of being behind this week’s brutal attack after a verbal argument with Huntley quickly turned violent and Russell beat Huntley with a spiked pole.

Following the attack, inmates reportedly cheered and whistled as Russell was handcuffed and taken to the isolation unit.

Russell was jailed in 2020 for the murders of Julie Williams, 58, her son David, 32, and Nicole McGregor, 31, who was five months pregnant. Russell was sentenced to “life” imprisonment, meaning he would never be released.

“(Huntley) was in a terrible state and was in a pool of blood with his head split in two,” a source said Sun.

Huntley, a former school caretaker, is considered an outcast at HMP Frankland in the UK, where he was sentenced to a minimum of 40 years in prison for the 2002 murders of 10-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in Soham.

“If he wakes up in hospital Huntley will realize he is extremely lucky to have survived,” a source told The Sun.

“But he knew that this attack would come from someone else, if not from Russell.

“Huntley knew that he was hated and that five or six inmates wanted him dead. Some of them made it clear that they would kill him if they were left alone with him.

“There were intelligence reports of an attack. And the inmates clearly told him he was going to ‘finish’ it.”

The source said Huntley had spoken to relatives and friends about the possibility of being attacked.

“He even said that if he was killed, he wanted it to be as quick and painless as possible,” the source said. he said.

“Huntley was in prison long enough to know that any attack on him would be violent and possibly fatal.”

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Huntley remains in hospital under police guard while in a coma but is understood to be showing signs of recovery.

He reportedly visited the bedside of his mother, Lynda Richards, telling friends she was “unrecognizable.”

“Part of him hopes he dies this time. But no matter what, he’s still her son and they remain very close.”
