Trump threatens to obliterate Iran’s energy assets, Kharg Island; Australia fuel excise cut announced; Israel military operation expands in Lebanon
US President Donald Trump claims to have made major progress in talks with Tehran but has also threatened to “totally destroy” Iran’s energy assets, including Kharg Island and possibly desalination plants, if a deal is not reached “soon”.
Trump shared on Truth Social on Monday night AEDT that the US is “engaged in serious discussions with a new, more reasonable regime to end our military operations in Iran.”
“Great progress has been made, but if for some reason an agreement cannot be reached soon, as it probably will be, and the Strait of Hormuz is not immediately opened to ‘Trade’, we will end our pleasant ‘stay’ in Iran by blowing up and completely destroying all Power Generation Facilities, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and probably all desalination operations). [sic] Plants we haven’t knowingly ‘touched’ yet!),” Trump wrote.
The President in his interview in London Finance TimesHe claimed that the US military had “a few thousand more targets to go to” in Iran and that “a deal could be made pretty quickly”, but he also said he wanted to seize Iran’s oil resources.
