President Donald Trump on Saturday withdrew his support for Rep. Jeff Hurd, R-Colo., accusing the congressman of not supporting his tariff policies after Hurd publicly declared Congress’ constitutional authority over trade decisions.

“Based on the lack of support, particularly for the incredibly successful Tariffs on Foreign Countries and Corporations that have made America richer, stronger, bigger and better than ever before, I WITHDRAW my endorsement of RINO Congressman Jeff Hurd of Colorado’s 3rd District and fully endorse the Right Honorable Patriot Hope Scheppelman to take her place in Congress,” Trump said. Wrote at Truth Social.

The move came a day after Hurd cited the Constitution’s separation of powers principle in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision Friday limiting the president’s tariff authority, and just hours after Trump announced he would raise the global tariff rate to 10% and then to 15% on Saturday.

The endorsement reversal marks a rare clear gap between Trump and a Republican incumbent.

“Based on a thorough, detailed and complete review of the ridiculous, poorly written and extraordinarily un-American decision on Tariffs announced yesterday… I, as President of the United States, will, effective immediately, increase the 10% Worldwide Tariff to the fully permissible and legally tested level of 15%,” Trump wrote.

The order was made pursuant to Section 122 of the Commercial Code 1974.
