Delhi-Meerut Expressway to closed on these days for Kanwar Yatra in July: Check full traffic advisory on closure, diversions

Delhi-Meerut Motorway: Heavy Vehicle Restrictions from 11 July
Traffic sidewalks will be applied in two stages. As of July 11, heavy vehicles will not be allowed on the route. As of July 19, light vehicles and cars will be restricted. The adjacent NH-9 will be operational for normal vehicles. However, blockage is expected as more vehicles are directed to this route.
For the Delhi side of the motorway, no restriction has been announced yet, but the spreading blockage in the capital is expected due to DME closure.
Alternative routes planned for directed traffic
Authorities have prepared alternative ways to manage directed traffic. ACP (Traffic) Ziauddin Ahmad said, “Light vehicles will have to take the hap route from Meerut, and then the NH-9 and vice versa to reach Ghaziabad.
In 2023, similar deviations caused long delays in the NH-9, many vehicles were forced to use the Eastern Environmental Motorway, DND Flyway and Noida Motorway.
Three main routes used by Kanwariyas
Kanwar pilgrims take three important paths through Ghazabad. Foot pilgrims mainly use the pipeline path to Niwari from the Loni border. Dak Kanwariyas prefers the Delhi-Meerut highway, while others use NH-34 on the GT path. The combined length of these routes in the city is about 150 kilometers.
Local Traffic Plan for Ghaziabad and nearby areas
Traffic deviations are also planned in the surrounding regions. “Vehicles from Baghpat to Delhi will be directed through Tronica City and Sonia Vihar. Heavy vehicles will be restricted on the Loni border and will be directed from the Dasna Bridge from the Dasna Bridge to Ghazabad from Ghazabad to Ghazabad.
Developed security arrangements for the investment
In addition to traffic management, security will be strengthened. Annex CP Alok Priyadarshi, “More than 1,500 CCTV cameras will be installed on all three routes. Last year, we expect more than 350 Kanwar camps from 301 this year.”
The security installation divides the area into a 120 stroke area. Each will be appointed by five police staff and will be audited by an ACP.
Another civil servant said the camp organizers were asked to install at least four CCTV camera in each camp. They will be monitored by a special bloodwar cell.
