Sanju Samson-Rajasthan Royals split on the cards? CSK, KKR eye blockbuster move ahead of IPL 2026 auction
Sanju, who has been one of the most consistent Indian batsmen in the IPL over the last few seasons, could become one of the most expensive targets if released. His leadership qualities, aggressive batting style and ability to lock down shots made him a top target.
In a major development ahead of IPL 2026, Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson is reportedly considering a bold exit from the series. After years of dedicated service and consistent performances, the Kerala-born star might be ready to take on a new challenge.
Sanju Samson’s tenure with Rajasthan Royals was truly remarkable. From his beginnings as a promising young talent to his rise as captain, he has been at the center of the team’s dynamics for several years. Known for his calm leadership and powerful hitting, Samson has become a fan favorite and a reliable figure in the Royals’ batting lineup.
Media reports state that Samson has expressed his intention to leave the franchise under the management of the Royal family. This decision appears to be driven by several key factors.
An important reason is his increasing disagreement with team management. Samson reportedly unhappy with Royals’ decision to release star opener Jos Servant Before IPL 2025. The England batsman has been one of the biggest winners of the match in recent seasons and the move did not sit well with the skipper.
Another factor may be personal branding. Sources suggest that Samson is keen to join a larger, more prestigious IPL team that could increase his visibility and marketability both on and off the field.
As rumors swirled about his potential departure, other franchises began to take notice as well. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are said to be quite interested in buying Samson.
Samson could serve as a cornerstone for CSK in the post-Dhoni era. With the legendary captain no longer leading the team, the team searches for a strong, experienced leader to continue the legacy.
Conversely, KKR urgently need a captain to follow Shreyas Iyer’s Transfer to Punjab Kings. Samson could be an ideal fit for the three-time champions as Ajinkya Rahane is unlikely to remain in the leadership position.
Currently, neither Sanju Samson nor Rajasthan Royals have made any official comments regarding the possible transfer. However, insiders state that negotiations are continuing and a solution can be reached in a short time. Whether he stays with the team or leaves, it is obvious that Sanju Samson’s future has become one of the most talked about topics as IPL 2026 approaches.
