Trump’s son suggests president may walk away from Ukraine

DOHA, Qatar — Donald Trump Jr. criticized corruption in Ukraine and suggested Sunday that his father might withdraw from the country if peace is not made with Russia.
Trump Jr., President Donald Trump’s eldest son, was speaking at the Doha Forum, a major gathering of government officials and other international players. Trump Jr. emphasized that Ukraine has long been hampered by corruption in official positions and argued that this corruption fueled the war in both Moscow and Kiev.
He also took shots at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Ukrainian leader is under political threat over a corruption investigation that has ensnared some of his top aides. One such helper, Andriy Yermak, recently resigned. Yermak frequently led Ukraine’s international negotiations.
Zelenskyy himself has not been accused of corruption.

When asked if the US president could withdraw from Ukraine, the younger Trump said: “I think he could.”
“The good thing and the unique thing about my dad is that you don’t know what he’s going to do,” he added. “The fact that it is not predictable… forces everyone to work in an intellectually honest capacity.”
President Trump has been A difficult relationship with Ukraine and especially Zelenskyyinstead, he often shows sympathy for Russia and Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The Trump administration is pushing both countries to sign a peace agreement but has little chance.
“We want peace. We want to stop the death,” Trump Jr. said.

He laughed when asked if his father would run for a third term, which is not constitutionally allowed. “We’ll see what happens,” Trump Jr. said, adding that the president’s reluctance to rule it out could be a form of “trolling.”

Trump Jr.’s corruption charges against Ukraine are likely to anger not only Ukraine supporters but also many Democrats who feel the Trump family has benefited financially from their political power.
