Trump’s Tariff Tantrum: Supreme Court Could Expose Him To Trillions In Chaos | World News

Washington: US President Donald Trump has warned that the country could be “devastated” if the Supreme Court rules against his administration’s tariff policies, calling such a scenario a “total mess” that could cost trillions of dollars.
His comments came Monday ahead of the Supreme Court’s decision Wednesday on the administration’s controversial tariffs. He warned that the United States could have to pay back hundreds of billions of dollars, not counting debt owed to countries and companies that invested in factories and equipment to avoid tariffs.
“If for some reason the Supreme Court rules against the United States on Tariffs, the actual numbers we would have to pay back would be in the Hundreds of Billions of Dollars, and that does not include the amount of ‘refunds’ that Countries and Companies would need for their Investments to build Plants, Factories, and Equipment to avoid paying Tariffs,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

“When these investments are added, we are talking about trillions of dollars! It would be a complete disgrace, it would be almost impossible for our country to pay.”
He rejected suggestions that any refunds could be dealt with quickly, saying: “Anyone who says this can be done quickly and easily will be giving an incorrect, inaccurate or completely misunderstood answer to this very large and complex question.”
He also emphasized the long-term complexity of the issue, saying, “It may not be possible, but if it were, the Dollar would be so big that it would take years to figure out what number we are talking about, or even to whom, when and where to pay. Remember, when America shines, the World shines. In other words, if the Supreme Court rules against the United States on this National Security bonanza, WE ARE MISTAKES!”
Supreme Court Learning Resources v. Its pending decision in the Trump case will determine whether a U.S. president can use emergency powers under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to impose tariffs without congressional approval. The decision could have far-reaching effects on Trump’s “Emancipation Day” tariffs and global trade policy.
A note from the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) said: “Such a decision would mean that all ‘Emancipation Day’ tariffs and subsequent rate increases lack a legal basis. The administration would be forced to roll back them or face injunctions halting collections. Trump could seek to reimpose similar tariffs under Section 301 or Section 232, but these laws would require new investigations and public justifications, delay action, and invite further legal challenges.” It’s coming out.”
GTRI also warned: “If the Supreme Court strikes down Trump’s use of emergency powers, the decision would have far-reaching consequences beyond the United States. It would undermine the foundations of several recently negotiated trade agreements with key partners, including the European Union, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.”
