Social media exploded on Tuesday morning when President Donald Trump sparked outrage from critics by warning in a post on Truth Social that “an entire civilization will die tonight” and threatening that the United States would launch a devastating attack against Iran.

“An entire civilization will die tonight and never be brought back. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will,” Trump said declared in the article.

Trump continued: “But now we have Complete and Total Regime Change, dominated by different, smarter and less radicalized minds, it may be something revolutionary, wonderful, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight that it is one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the world.” “47 years of usurpation, corruption and death will finally come to an end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!”

In an earlier Truth Social post published on Easter Sunday, the president had threatened to attack the Middle Eastern country’s power plants and bridges on Tuesday. In his statements on Monday, Trump stated that the United States “has a plan in which all bridges in Iran will be destroyed by 12 o’clock tomorrow night, all power plants in Iran will be disabled, burned, exploded and never used again.” I mean completely destroyed by 12 o’clock.”

Trump gave the Iranian regime until 20:00 on Tuesday to agree to a ceasefire that would include reopening the Strait of Hormuz. He said he did not want the attack to happen, but the threat to an entire civilization polarized social media.

Some accused the president of threatening genocide, while others suggested that tough talk was just a negotiating tactic.

Newsweek’s Josh Hammer recalled a quote from Salena Zito in 2016, “Take Trump seriously, but not literally,” and said a decade later that message still rings true.

“And frankly it’s surprising that this still needs to be said,” hammer wrote.

New York Times columnist David French was quick to condemn the message.

“This is completely unbalanced rhetoric. If you hear this kind of yelling from a family member who has no power, you worry about them. This is terrible from the president. This is clearly 25th Amendment territory, but people are so desensitized they can’t see it.” French replied.

Anti-Trump pundit Charlie Sykes reveals he did this “Three quick thoughts” This was less than flattering and begged the question: “(1) Has any president of this country – or any leader of a liberal democracy – ever threatened to destroy ‘an entire civilization’?”

“(2) The line between the so-called ‘mad theory’ and an actual madman is pretty thin, isn’t it? (3) Trusting this guy with the nuclear button was a really bad idea, wasn’t it?” Sykes continued.

Billionaire Tom Steyer, outspoken liberal megadonor and California gubernatorial candidate, has declared that Trump should be removed from office.

“If this isn’t a reason to invoke the 25th Amendment, then nothing is,” Steyer wrote. “He’s lost his mind.”

While many condemned Trump’s threat, others showed support or downplayed the rhetoric.

“The truth is that no expert, influencer or anonymous furry guy has the slightest idea what Trump will do tonight. Perhaps this is Trump’s ultimate superpower that keeps everyone on their toes after all these years. I, first of all, believe in him and the people around him.” Dave Rubin wrote.

“Donald Trump has been a national politician for a decade. Anyone who still reacts ten years later to this man’s negotiating tactics and this kind of hysterical hyperbole should be disqualified from political commentary. If he nukes Tehran at 8pm, I’ll admit I’m the crazy one,” Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing wrote.

Outkick Clay Travis wrote“Donald Trump has been making over-the-top comments as part of his negotiating tactics for a decade, especially on social media, and yet people are still going around reacting like crazy to his posts here. I really don’t understand.”

THE IRAN WAR IS NEARING ‘COMPLETE’ AS TRUMP HAS A DEADLINE IN HIS EYES – WHAT MAY THE END GAME LIKE

Conservative radio host Erick Erickson said“The left ascribes rational purpose to everyone except Trump. It’s probably no coincidence that Trump beat them twice.”

Bill Kristol, meanwhile, said: “For some of us conservatives who object when we suggest that Trump is a fascist, and who complain when we point out that much of current American conservatism has devolved into fascism, if you remain silent about Trump’s threat of genocide, you have proven the point you object to.”

MS NOW political analyst Richard Stengel wrote: “An American president threatening death to an ancient civilization is, in some ways, the end of the 250-year moral experiment of the constitutional republic that the framers viewed as a model for all humanity.”

Former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent, who resigned last month over his opposition to the Iran war, also warned Tuesday that the president’s proposed course of action would threaten America’s status as the world’s greatest superpower.

“Trump believes he is threatening Iran with destruction, but right now it is America that is in danger. If Iran attempts to destroy its civilization, the United States will no longer be seen as a stabilizing force in the world but as an agent of chaos, effectively ending our status as the world’s greatest superpower,” Kent said. he wrote in a post X. “This would disrupt our economy and shatter the global order. The process is already underway, but we still have time to avert disaster if Trump finds the courage to pursue serious negotiations rather than reckless anger and destruction.”

Many people took to social media to express their thoughts about Trump’s threat:

The White House says Iran still has time to make a deal.

When asked about criticism about the threat, press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News Digital: “The Iranian regime has until 8pm Eastern Time to make a deal with the United States. Only the President knows where things stand and what he will do.” he said.
