Aldi to open 16 new stores – here’s where they are coming in your area

Aldi will open 16 new stores across the UK as the discount supermarket continues to expand.

The German department store chain has more than 1,080 stores open across Britain, but aims to reach 1,500 stores in the long term; The latest additions will pop up in places like London, Manchester, Suffolk and even the Isle of Wight.

The retailer, which consistently ranks high on the list of the cheapest supermarkets to shop in, is expected to invest a total of £370 million in new store openings in 2026. Which?this year’s consumer guide.

A few months ago Aldi said it hoped to open up to 40 stores in 2026, including an opening in Salford last month.

No definitive timetable was given for the opening of each new supermarket, other than “coming months” for all 16 supermarkets.

Latest data from Worldpanel shows Aldi has the fourth largest market share in the UK for 12 months, behind Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda, according to Numerator, and holds more than 10 per cent of the total market, just ahead of rival discount store Lidl.

While Britons are concerned this year that food prices will likely continue to rise in the second half of 2026 as energy costs are reflected in manufacturing and production, the Food and Drink Federation has warned that food inflation could reach up to 10 per cent.

Recent data on inflation running below expected levels in the UK will give hope that the cost of living may not be as great as initially feared; But food prices are more likely to feel the impact later in the year, as energy bills rise, fertilizer costs increase and supply chains face some disruption.
