Earthquake strikes near Sand Point
The earthquake occurred 54 miles south of Sand Point on Popof Island, about 600 miles southwest of Anchorage. The Pacific is 12 miles below the ocean surface. The tremor caused the swing of buildings, but early reports did not show great damage.

A tsunami is a series of waves caused by large underwater disorders often following earthquakes. The first wave is not always the greatest. Flooring can be dangerous in bays, ports and beaches.

Sirens and warnings in cities
