The US President claimed the King would “probably” help the US on Iran.

She said: “The king is amazing. We spent a lot of time together. We talked a lot. We talked about that too, he loves his country, he’s a great king and he’s a very good friend of mine.”

“And I think if he did that, if it were up to him, he would probably help us with Iran.”

Mr Trump added that the King would “follow the recommendations” the US made on Ukraine.

This follows comments from President Charles at a state dinner on Tuesday night in which he said he agreed with Tehran about the need to prevent Tehran from getting a nuclear bomb.

He told guests: “Militarily we have defeated that opponent and we will never allow that opponent, and Charles agrees with me more than I do; we will never allow that opponent to have nuclear weapons, they know that. And we will stand defiant and victorious against the forces of communism, fascism and tyranny.”

As head of state, the King is above party politics and remains neutral.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “The King is naturally conscious of his Government’s long-standing and well-known position on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.”

Earlier today, the King and Queen said they stood in “enduring solidarity with the American people” as they commemorated those killed in the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Charles and Camilla’s words of condolence were written in a message accompanied by a bouquet of flowers left at the majestic memorial in New York in memory of the thousands of people who lost their lives almost 25 years ago.

The note, handwritten in the King’s signature black script, read: “We honor the memory of those who tragically lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

“We stand in enduring solidarity with the American people and their profound loss. Charles R Camilla.”
