Turkey orders detention of Istanbul district mayor, others in corruption probe, state media says
ISTANBUL (REUTERS) -Bir Turkish Prosecutor ordered 48 suspects to be detained, including the mayor of the Bayramasa Region operated by the opposition.
According to TRT Haber, the police carried out raids in the early hours of the morning to take over the suspects of charges such as seizing the documents and passing money to embezzlement, bribery and tender coat of arms.
In an article in X, the main opposition from the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Bayramasa Mayor Hasan Mutlu, there is nothing to hide and the investigation “a political operation based on unfounded slander,” he said.
Procurement, hundreds of party members were arrested and imprisoned in the municipalities operated by the CHP and CHP in the midst of a year of pressure.
A court decision on Monday may remove the CHP leader in a case where the country’s fragile balance between democratic institutions and central power is seen as a test and increases the legal pressure on the party.
