Two inmates charged with murder after paedophile Ian Watkins dies in prison attack

Police have charged two men with the murder of pedophile Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins.
Rashid Gedel, 25, and Samuel Dodsworth, 43, were charged with murder after Watkins, 48, was pronounced dead after being seriously assaulted at HMP Wakefield on Saturday morning.
West Yorkshire Police said the pair would appear at Leeds Magistrates’ Court this morning.
Emergency services were called to HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire after Watkins, 48, was attacked with a knife on Saturday morning. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Watkins was serving a 29-year prison sentence for child sex crimes.

In 2013, Watkins pleaded guilty to 13 charges, including trying to rape an infant, sexually touching a 1-year-old child, encouraging a fan to abuse her child, and producing child pornography.
At sentencing, Judge John Royce described Watkins as a manipulative and dangerous sexual predator who abused his fame to satisfy his “insatiable lust”.
Immediately after Watkins’ murder, the prison was placed on quarantine. reported.
Watkins was previously stabbed in a 2023 incident at the same prison and suffered non-life-threatening injuries after reportedly being held hostage by three other inmates for six hours.
He appeared in court again in 2019 having a phone behind barsand described his fellow inmates as “murderers, mass murderers, rapists, pedophiles, serial killers – the worst.”
