Two people died in a small plane crash in Chicago and investigators are trying to determine the cause of the crash.
The twin-engine plane crashed at DuPage Airport in West Chicago around 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17.
It was determined that the two people on the plane died at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims.
West Chicago Police Department and West Chicago Fire Protection District officers responded to the incident, and about a dozen emergency vehicles were seen surrounding the incident around 3:30 p.m. Daily Herald reported.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the Piper PA-30 crashed after taking off from the airport near the border of DuPage and Kane counties, the Daily Herald reported.
ABC7 reported It was stated that the plane belonged to International Flying Club members and the club said that one person on the plane was a current member and the other was a former member.
An investigation into the exact cause of the crash is ongoing, and airport officials are coordinating with the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board.
Crash footage showed serious damage to the front of the plane and that it was in a snow-covered area near the runway.
Part of the general aviation airport was open late Wednesday afternoon.
