Putin crony promises ‘unstoppable’ missiles for Trump’s enemy in terri | UK | News

Russia may be planning to transfer its most advanced hypersonic missiles to Venezuela amid rising tensions with the United States over drug smuggling allegations and the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The move comes as President Trump increases pressure on the Latin American nation.

The Kremlin’s Oreshnik missile is nearly impossible to stop and can be equipped with both conventional and nuclear warheads, according to Alexei Zhuravlyov, deputy chairman of Russia’s parliamentary defense committee.

While suggesting the possibility of deploying these weapons to Venezuela, Zhuravlyov warned that “the Americans may have some surprises.”

Russia ‘considering sending nuclear-capable missiles to Venezuela or Cuba’

The Institute for the Study of War reported that Zhuravlyov stated that Russia could deliver nuclear-capable missiles to “Venezuela or Cuba” and emphasized the proximity of these countries to the United States, which he called Russia’s “main geopolitical enemy.”

Russian official says US is ‘enemy’, not ‘friend or partner’

Zhuravlyov emphasized that Russia has “the entire range of missiles” and will use “whatever is needed.” He openly declared that the United States is not Russia’s friend or partner, but rather its enemy.

According to the report, Zhuravlyov’s threats aim to remind the world of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, when tensions between the USA and Russia brought the world to the brink of nuclear war.

Zhuravlyov expressed Russia’s desire to share the most advanced missile technology with its allies, saying, “I see no obstacles to providing a friendly country with new developments that have already proven effective, such as the Oreshnik missile or, for example, the Kalibr missiles.” he said.

Russia used Oreshnik as retaliation for the first time in Ukraine

Moscow claims that the Oreshnik missile, whose name means “hazelnut”, could hit any target in continental Europe in less than an hour if launched from Russia or Belarus.

President Vladimir Putin has argued that the missiles are so powerful that a multiple conventional warhead attack would be as devastating as a nuclear attack.

In November 2024, Moscow deployed the Oreshnik missile to Dnipro in eastern Ukraine for the first time.

Putin described the attack as retaliation for Ukraine’s use of long-range weapons supplied by the US and UK, including Storm Shadow missiles, against targets inside Russia.
