Two National Guard soldiers shot dead in horrific attack on streets of DC as White House is urgently locked down

The killing of two National Guard soldiers near the White House led to security measures being taken at the president’s residence.

The suspected shooter was held in custody after several West Virginia National Guard soldiers shot the White House street in downtown D.C.

“It is with great sadness that we confirm that both members of the West Virginia National Guard who were shot in Washington, D.C. earlier today have died from their injuries,” said West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey.

‘These brave West Virginians lost their lives serving their country. We are in contact with federal authorities as the investigation continues. Our entire state mourns with their families, loved ones and the Guard community. ‘West Virginia will never forget their service or sacrifice, and we will demand full responsibility for this terrible act.’

An image emerged online showing a wounded National Guard soldier lying on the pavement with blood flowing from his head while Secret Service agents gave him medical attention.

Armed National Guard troops have been deployed to the nation’s capital since early August as part of Donald Trump’s war on crime.

‘The White House is aware of this tragic situation and is actively monitoring it. “The President has been briefed,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told the Daily Mail.

The Daily Mail has reached out to the Secret Service for comment.

The president was not at the White House at the time of the shooting because he went to Mar-a-Lago yesterday for the Thanksgiving holiday.

‘The National Guard opened fire near the White House just before 2:15 p.m. I was in an Uber to work with my cameraman and as I drove past Farragut West I heard multiple gunshots,” journalist Mari Otsu wrote to X.

‘One of the National Guard fell as others rushed to the scene. The area remains under lockdown and the Secret Service is being deployed.’

The Federal Aviation Administration briefly stopped commercial planes arriving at Reagan Washington International Airport after the attack.

The decision was made due to ‘the locations of the planes that intervened in today’s shooting incident’. ‘Normal operations have resumed.’
