Two Standard X girls found to be pregnant in Odisha’s Kandhamal

On Friday, July 25, 2025, the Kandhamal Regional Administration in Odisha complained that two girls studying on the standard X had tested positive for pregnancy.

According to the application, the girls who grow up in housing schools operated by the state government are subjected to medical tests immediately after returning from a long holiday.

This year, schools were reopened on June 21 after the summer holiday. However, the two girls returned to school in the first week of July.

These 188 schools are collectively enrolled in 62,385 girls. In general, the department conducts 1,737 housing schools throughout the state and trains a total of 4,26,903 students with a majority of which belong to tribal communities.

In 2018, the Caste and the planned tribal research and training Institute (SCstrtı), which was planned by the government, conducted a study titled ‘Effect of Preventive intervention on sexual abuse incidents in Odisha housing schools’. The study reviewed various sexual violence reported from housing schools and found that the allegations were confirmed in most cases.

In particular, the researchers analyzed 29 sexual abuse cases reported in five districts between 2011-2016 – Koraput, Balasore, Naygarh, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh. In an alarming way, 13 principals and four teachers were defined as the defendant in these cases.

After the founding of some non -teaching personnel in abuse, the government brought instructions to closely monitor the health of female students. After Vacation, health checks were compulsory to determine whether pregnancy occurs when they stayed at home, not in housing schools.
