Bristol shooting: Manhunt launched for gunman after shots fired at car as schools locked down

Police have launched a manhunt in Bristol after a man suffered life-changing injuries in a car shooting in Bristol.

The incident at Speedwell led to a heavy police presence and three schools declaring lockdown.

Avon and Somerset Police said armed officers attended the scene on Speedwell Road at 1.47pm, where the victim, aged in his 20s, was found and taken to hospital with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Police said they were trying to identify the shooter and left the area in the direction of Soundwell on a black and gray electric bike.

He was described as white, in his late teens or early twenties, with a slim build and approximately 6 feet tall. He was wearing a gray hoodie, black pants and a ski mask.

Four schools decided to impose quarantine as a precaution due to the heavy police presence in the area, six kilometers northeast of Bristol city centre. These are Bristol Brunel Academy, Two Mile Hill Primary School and Chester Park Infant and Secondary schools.

In a letter to parents, Bristol Brunel Academy said “we have been advised by the police to remain in isolation due to an incident occurring in the local community.” Bristol Live.

The woman, who did not want to be named, said: “Unfortunately, CCTV was unable to identify anything about the people involved, but I directed officers to two groups of people in the bar who heard the explosion.”

“They didn’t think anything of it and carried on when they heard, so they were surprised to hear what happened. Everyone is safe here and we’re bringing our usual customers here despite the nearby roads being closed.”

Chief Inspector James Clements said: “I know this incident will be extremely concerning, but we are deploying significant resources, including the National Police Air Service helicopter and our specially trained firearms officers, as we work to find the person responsible.

“The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for a potentially life-changing injury, but it is not believed to be life-threatening. “His family has been notified and will be kept informed as our investigation progresses.

“There is likely to be a significant police presence in the area over the coming days as our investigation continues. Neighborhood officers will also be carrying out extra patrols and anyone with concerns can speak to them about this.”
