Two Trinamool Congress workers were killed in Kaliachak area of West Bengal’s Malda district as violence gripped the region and tensions rose. On the morning of Thursday, November 27, 2025, a worker was stabbed to death, and on Tuesday, November 25, the body of a worker with a bullet wound was found. In a third incident, a roadside food vendor was also killed in gunfights in the same Kaliachak area.

Heavy police deployment was made in the area to control the violence and related tension. Three violent deaths in Kaliachak within 48 hours have sparked panic among locals.

TMC worker Ekramul Sheikh was reportedly stabbed to death at a kangaroo court meeting in Kaliachak on Thursday. Video of the murder spread on social media and showed two groups chasing each other with sharp objects during the violence.

“The violence broke out while they were all attending a kangaroo court session in the community. Many of them attacked him, he was all alone,” said the wife of the deceased TMC worker. He claimed that the dispute was due to problems with land and cultivation.

A TMC worker told media persons that the group that attacked them was also TMC workers and that this was an incident of intra-party fight.

However, local TMC leaders claimed that the incident was a domestic quarrel with no political aspect.

Police detained at least 10 people in connection with the death. They are still looking for the prime suspect.

In another incident in Kaliachak, Wabaidulla Khan (32), a TMC worker, a coal trader and brick kiln owner, went missing on Monday and his body was later found near a mango farm on Tuesday. Police suspect that the suspect was murdered because he was found with a severe wound on the back of his head and gunshot wounds. However, police have not confirmed the cause of death.

Commenting on the deaths, Bharatiya Janta Party West Bengal state president Samik Bhattacharya said, “TMC rule is ending, that’s why they started fighting. TMC is now killing TMC. Look at the data of the last 3 years, the number of TMC workers who died is very high.” he said.

Repeated incidents have raised questions about security and the role of police in the area.

Violence has gripped these parts of Malda district many times over. On January 2, 2025, TMC councilor and party’s district unit vice president Dulal Sarkar was shot dead in broad daylight by unidentified assailants.

Another TMC worker, Ataul Haque alias Hasu Sheikh, was shot dead in Kaliachak on January 14, 2025, and two other workers were seriously injured.
