Two women killed trying to help injured kangaroo
A 30 -year -old Beveridge woman died at the scene. A 30 -year -old Thomastown flew to the hospital, but soon died.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and helps the police in his investigations.
In the last four days, nine people have died on Victoria roads: three pedestrians, three motorcyclists and three people in vehicles.
Animal Justice Party Deputy Georgie Purcell said that women should be remembered with their “heroic actions”.
“My thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the two brave women who lost their lives tragically, trying to help a animal in need,” he said.
“This heartbreaking event sent shock waves throughout the rescue community, and reminds us that the wildlife road kick did not only harm our animals-at the same time that human lives are at risk.”

John Grant, a spokesman for wildlife rescue organization, said this was “very sad news”.
“People are very upset when they see an animal on the roadside, and their efforts to help can be completely understood,” he told ABC Radyo on Friday morning.
Grant called on everyone who saw a wounded animal of the road to contact wildlife rescue groups in the first response.
Victoria CEO Lisa Palma, Victoria CEO, said that this year has an increase of 15,038 animal strikes on Victoria roads compared to the same time last year. Eastern gray kangurlar is the main species hit.

“If an animal is notified on any highway, the wildlife will immediately report all cases to 000 police if Victoria is considered as a security concern/road danger,” he said.
“If our volunteers are safe with the presence of the police, they may be asked to help euthanasia.”
