Two Years After They Were Taken Hostage, Arbel Finally Holds Ariel Again – A Love Story That Endured The Longest Night Of The Israel-Gaza War | World News

Israeli-Palestinian Prisoner Exchange: Arbel Yehoud could barely suppress his emotions when he saw Ariel Cunio again. After more than two years of terror, separation and endless worry, the couple finally embraced on Monday. Both had been held hostage during the Hamas-led attacks on Kibbutz Nir-Oz on October 7, 2023, and their reunion was the culmination of years filled with hope and anxiety.
“My Ariel is home again and I am overwhelmed with emotion and joy. For over two years, the hope of holding Ariel again has been what has sustained and motivated me every day,” Yehoud said in a statement released by the Hostages and Missing Families Forum Headquarters.
Cunio, 28, was one of four hostages released aboard Nir-Oz. He was taken with his brother David and his girlfriend Arbel. David was released with her on Monday. David’s wife, Sharon, and their three-year-old twin daughters, Yuli and Emma, returned home with the ceasefire agreement reached in November 2023.

Yehoud, 29, was released in early January as part of the second ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. Reflecting on his ordeal, he said, “We must not give up until the last hostage returns home. Only then can we heal as a society and as a people.”
