U.S. stops immigrant visas for 75 countries: See the full list

The U.S. State Department announced Wednesday that it will pause issuing immigrant visas to citizens of 75 countries over concerns that they may rely on public assistance in the future.

The list, which included the US’s allies and enemies as well as the most preferred destinations by American travelers, was later published on the US State Department’s website.

The freeze, which is scheduled to begin on January 21, does not affect tourist visas.
It will remain in effect “until the United States can ensure that new immigrants will not obtain wealth from the American people,” according to the U.S. State Department website.
The agency said it was conducting a full review of “all policies, regulations, and guidance to ensure that immigrants from these high-risk countries do not receive benefits or become public figures in the United States.”
