Manhunt launched after dog walker ‘sexually assaulted’ in UK village | UK | News

A manhunt was launched after it was reported that a man walking his dog in a quiet village in England had been sexually assaulted. Investigating officers have released the name and image of a man they believe is linked to the alleged attack.

Police said a woman was walking her dog in Buckshaw Village, Lancashire, at around 10am last Thursday (October 9). She was reportedly approached by a man who began asking her questions before touching her inappropriately. While it was alleged that the suspect followed her home, the woman reported the situation to the police.

South Ribble Police have identified Lewis Westwood as a suspect following the alleged sexual assault. The 31-year-old is reportedly a difficult sleeper and the public is being urged not to approach him.

Police said: “Westwood, 31, is wanted in connection with our investigation into sexual assault and is also wanted to be recalled to prison for a license breach. “He is of a slim build and has links to Buckshaw Village and Chorley.

“If you see Westwood please do not approach him. To see Westwood immediately please call 999 quoting log 371 of 10 October.

“For previous sightings, or if you have any information that could help us, please quote 101 quote log 10 October 371.”

Police have increased their presence in the area as they continue their investigation into the reported sexual assault. Local people are urged to speak to authorities if they have any concerns.

In a post on Facebook, South Ribble Police added: “We have asked for your help in identifying and locating a man we would like to speak to in connection with our investigation into a sexual assault in Buckshaw on Friday.

“At around 10am on Thursday 9 October we were called to a report that a woman walking her dog in Buckshaw had been approached by a man who began asking her questions and touching her inappropriately before following her home.

“We would like to thank you for your assistance with our appeal on Friday. Following investigations and the information we received from the public appeal, we are now making a direct appeal for you to help locate Lewis Westwood, who we believe is linked to the above-mentioned incident.”

Buckshaw Village is located between the towns of Chorley and Leyland in Lancashire. It has a population of approximately 4,000 people.
