McVitie’s owner invests £68 million into factories across the UK

The snack giant Pladis, owned by the Turks behind beloved brands like McVitie’s and Jacob’s, will inject an important £ 68 million to British operations. Significant investment aims to “super charge” in the UK factories to increase the production capacity and productivity of iconic brands.

The London -based company separated most of the funds for sites in northwest of England. This includes a revision of 33 million pounds of Liverpool Aintree facility, known to cook Jacob’s cream crackers. Considering the plans of the company in 2023, comprehensive renovation will see the installation of the new bakery and infrastructure, which is a remarkable development to reduce the size of the Aintree site, which risk 361 workers.

More investments contain £ 21 million for a new chocolate molding line at the StockPort Jaffa Cake Factory. In addition, Carlisle, the world’s oldest biscuit factory, will create 48 new roles for its site.

£ 12 million will support infrastructure in Pladis’s wider UK network, and support the facilities in Harlesden in North London and Leicester in North London, as well as the above mentioned sites. Mete ORMANGAN, Pladis’s General Manager of England and Ireland, commented on the announcement: “Today’s announcement, the capacity to unlock our sites for renewing and growth story, we have a fantastic package of the very popular brands established by dedicated colleagues and we will have the responsibility of sharing these brands and consumers.”

The company predicts that these comprehensive investment plans will be completed by the end of 2026.
