Sir David Attenborough sets his sights on London’s wildlife in his new BBC programme.

The 99-year-old broadcaster, who has devoted his career to world-traveling adventures, is preparing to examine the unique environment of the metropolis where he has lived for 75 years with a one-hour documentary.

Co-created by Passion Planet and the London Wildlife Trust, Wild London will explore “incredible wild encounters to be had in your hometown”. The news comes after David Attenborough held an emotional tribute to his long-time friend following his death.

The documentary will showcase nature’s tenacity in the “urban jungle”, from peregrine falcons nesting in the Houses of Parliament to urban foxes roaming Tottenham.

The show will also highlight plans designed to “encourage the return of nature to the city”. My London.

The press release reveals: “Whether it’s pigeons traveling on the Tube, snakes crawling along the Regent canal, budgies raiding city parks or beavers building a house next to a busy shopping centre, David reveals the incredibly wild encounters to be had in his hometown.”

The BBC confirmed that Sir David will appear “in theaters from start to finish”, branding the project a “personal and moving film”.

Development Director Katie Bowyer said: “London Wildlife Trust is delighted to be co-producing Wild London. We have incredible wildlife on our city’s doorstep and we’re excited to see it brought to life for the nation to enjoy.”

He added: “But this wildlife is under threat, so it’s vital to showcase it so people understand what we risk losing if we don’t act. Only by protecting and restoring nature today can we ensure it thrives for generations to come.”

Executive producer Tom Hugh-Jones promised viewers the show would deliver “Attenborough magic at its best”.

He added: “Wild London captures the Attenborough magic at its finest, delivering visual representation throughout the film, engaging in close encounters with animals and speaking candidly about his own wildlife experiences.”
