UK Championship 2025: Mark Selby takes control of final against Judd Trump

Mark Selby dominated the opening session of the British Championship final in York to take a 6-2 lead over reigning champion Judd Trump.
Selby, a two-time winner and making his 15th appearance in the final of one of snooker’s prestigious Triple Crown events, put on an almost flawless display of snooker in the first five frames.
The player, who came out of the most unexpected situations with a 77-point lead to take the first frame from Trump’s hands, took the second frame after winning a tactical fight on the yellow field and made a break of 97 to take the lead 3-0.

By the time Selby took the fifth frame he had a remarkable 10 wins over Trump and was back in November’s Champion of Champions final.
Yet, despite slashing a disappointing figure, Trump recovered to reduce his arrears with runs of 74 and 75, and Selby then underlined his superiority by taking the final frame of the afternoon session with another half-century.
The best-of-19 final will go live from 19:00 GMT on BBC Two, iPlayer and the BBC Sport website.
