MANHATTAN, NY — New Yorkers who spoke to Fox News Digital at the “No to Kings” rally in Times Square on Saturday agreed that they want mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani to protect New York City from President Donald Trump.
Millions of Americans gathered in cities across the country on Saturday to protest Trump’s sweeping second-term agenda. New York City voters explained why they voted for Mamdani for mayor as they marched through Times Square, almost two weeks before Election Day.
“He represents everything they are not,” Edgar, a New York City voter who lives in Rockaway Beach, Queens, told Fox News Digital.
Edgar declared that democracy is “under attack” and that New York City needs a leader like California Governor Gavin Newsom to similarly fight against the Trump administration.

Mamdani applauded Newsom’s leadership’s rejection of Trump’s second term through judicial action, particularly when Trump sent the National Guard to Los Angeles during protests rejecting deportations by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Trump has since sent the National Guard to major cities, including Washington, D.C.; Chicago; Portland; Oregon; and Memphis to fight crime.
He also threatened Cutting federal funding to New York City if Mamdani is elected mayor.
“I don’t think he’s afraid of Trump at all,” Gail Kelly, a lawyer who lives in Breezy Point, Queens, and said she voted for Mamdani, told Fox News Digital in Times Square.
Kelly said she was “fed up” with former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who lost the Democratic primary to Mamdani in June and is now running as an independent, and added that she was “not that thrilled” with Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa.

Brad, another Mamdani voter who lives in Gowanus, Brooklyn, and attended Saturday’s “No Kings” rally, said Trump and Cuomo are “fascists.”
“Cuomo is a fascist too,” Brad said. “He’s also a sexual predator. Mamdani, frankly, I don’t know if he has any good ideas. I don’t think a lot of ideas will work, but he has optimism. He cares about the people in the city. He cares about people’s lives. That’s good enough.”
Cuomo resigned as governor of New York in 2021 following multiple allegations of sexual harassment, which he denied. Cuomo campaign spokesman Rich Azzopardi responded to Brad’s accusation when reached for comment.
Azzopardi wrote, “Andrew Cuomo passed a $15 minimum wage, enacted paid family leave, made marriage equality the law of the land, made college tuition free for nearly 80% of CUNY students, and protected women’s right to vote by enshrining Row and Wade into state law. Whoever said this clearly doesn’t know what the word salad means. Send me their address. Happy to send them a dictionary for me.” “I hear it,” he said.

Annelice Morales, a Mamdani voter who lives on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, said Mamdani’s transparency is refreshing.
“I think people like Cuomo have been in power for too long and they’ve abused power,” Morales told Fox News Digital while marching at the “No Kings” rally.
Morales said he “100%” hopes Mamdani will run against Trump.
“He has a message to improve the lives and material needs of New Yorkers,” Lenny, a Lower East Side resident who voted for Mamdani in November, said Saturday.
When asked if he wanted Mamdani to fight against Trump, Lenny said: “Just keep the law. It’s that simple.”
