Widespread snow and extreme wind conditions will hit the UK from Saturday to Sunday, with the Met Office issuing a series of warnings for cold and miserable Easter weekend weather.
And the forecaster also issued advisories alongside yellow weather warnings for snow and high winds across Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland on Saturday and Sunday, urging households to prepare by stocking up on six essential items.

As part of its linked advice, the Met Office said: “If you are cut off by snow and unable to access services and amenities for several days, you may be left without food, heat or light. Act now and be prepared by gathering the essentials you may need: flashlights and batteries; candles and matches or lighters; plenty of blankets and warm clothing.”
In yellow weather warnings for Scotland from 3pm on Saturday, the Met Office said: “The combination of heavy rain and snow in higher elevations may cause some disruption to relations with Storm Dave.
“By Saturday afternoon, rain from the south is likely to turn to sleet and snow on the hills as it meets cold air across central and north-west Scotland.
“Snow may become heavier during the evening hours and as winds increase, blizzard conditions, with drifting and blown snow, are likely to result in very poor visibility over the hills and mountains of north-west Scotland. Snow may become further heavier during the evening hours, and as winds increase, blizzard conditions with drifting and blown snow are likely to result in very poor visibility over the hills and mountains of north-west Scotland.”
The Met Office warned for the UK: “Storm Dave is bringing very strong winds from later Saturday until Easter Sunday morning, which may cause some damage and disruption to travel.
“Storm Dave, a rapidly deepening area of low pressure, will pass Scotland on Saturday night before opening into the North Sea on Sunday. Although there remains some uncertainty about the exact path and shape of Storm Dave, strong south-westerly winds are expected. Winds of 50-60 mph are expected over a fairly wide area, with 60-70 mph winds expected in more open areas. The strongest winds are expected on Saturday evening, with a small chance of 70-80 mph gusts there for a short time. Particularly northern England.” and southern Scotland Large waves can lead to some dangerous conditions on windy coasts.”
Deputy Chief Forecaster Tom Crabtree said: “Storm Dave will form and deepen rapidly as it approaches the UK from the west on Saturday. By Saturday afternoon, winds will strengthen significantly, with gusts of 60-70mph expected at times in parts of Scotland, with the potential for 80-90mph winds in exposed coastal areas of Scotland. 50-60mph winds are likely to be more common in northern Britain.”
“As well as strong winds, Storm Dave will also bring heavy snowfall to the hills in northern Scotland, where up to 10-20cm of snow could accumulate. Combined with strong winds, this will lead to blizzard conditions. There will be heavy rain elsewhere as the system moves eastwards across the UK. With Storm Dave just days away, people should prepare their properties for strong winds and keep up to date with the latest weather forecasts as weather warnings are likely to be updated.”
